A Day Without Technology…

Sort of.
A fiber optic cable was cut in San Jose today, leaving our area without phones or internet access for most of the day. I took advantage of the lack of distractions to work on a necklace for the April challenge over at Art Bead Scene. This month’s theme is…
I love this painting! The symbolism it contains is so rich and multi layered that I discover something new each time I study it. It’s a truly fitting inspiration for this time of the year, when Spring is new and Nature is renewing itself all around us.
I set to work this afternoon picking out stones that would fit the bill for the necklace. Seeing as Venus is the Goddess of Love, I headed off in that direction first. I’ve been holding on to a strand of Kunzite, some pink some pale green, for just the right project. Kunzite has been used to represent unconditional love and uplifting peace. It is said that it can also help one heal a broken heart. Perfect for venus! I also threw in some cultured pearls in the most beautiful shade of natural pink to represent the innocence and purity that Venus displays when she emerged from the sea. To balance all of the love on the left side, I wanted the right side of the necklace to represent the water that she came from. Blue Fluorite with it’s calming energy was the perfect fit!
I’m naming my necklace “The Birth of Venus – Pacific Ocean” Why? I’ve included two shells in this piece, both of them collected on my beach visits along Monterey Bay. Another symbol of water and the Divine Feminine is Moonstone. I’ve included one piece of glowing blue flash Moonstone that really packs a punch.
It only seemed fitting that Venus would rise from the waves wearing a necklace to re affirm her Goddess status. That’s the spirit in which I created this piece. One side representing pure and true love, and the other side representing the ocean. Both sides meet atop a lovely pale pink ceramic pendant from Earthen Wood Studio that reads ‘Goddess’.
Seeing as there’s no daylight left, I had to take a few quick shots with my beading light. It’s just a teaser, I’ll get out tomorrow and take some real pictures. But, for now, here She is.
Tomorrow will be better pictures so I can enter it in the monthly challenge.
