Color Challenge – Red

This month Ashley and I challenged ourselves to make a piece using red. It was a quick color challenge, we had all of a week and a half to do it. She made some amazing earrings using some great vintage Lucite drops we scored from Three Beads and a Button on our monthly shopping trip a couple of weeks ago (more about that shopping trip soon!). I need to snap a picture of them, she whipped them up over night and they’re lovely!
Red was a challenge for me. I don’t normally work with it and it’s a challenge just to find good red beads! I was totally stoked when Ashley gifted me the red beads I used in this piece. They were from a two strand necklace that one of the ladies from the antique store in San Juan gave to her. She wasn’t crazy about them, but I went gaga over them. :) They’re an unusual shape, I have no idea what it’s called. The color was perfect red. Not orange, not magenta, but true red.
I played off the vintage and rustic nature of the beads and added some brass beads and feather drops to the piece and created a drop pendant using a chunk of Coral and a brass bell from India. The clasp is a loop of matte red seed beads with a black agate disk/button closure.
It has a funky tribal feel to it that I love. Steph loved it, too! In fact, she was so smitten with it I decided that it’s going to go live with her in her soon to be shipped goody box.
Is everyone else out there hibernating?

Beautiful job… Love the color of it…
Very, very nice:) I love red, though I don’t wear it often enough. It makes me feel powerful and passionate (or at least reminds me that I can be either if I wish)! It’s only 19 degrees here, so maybe I should wear some red to remind me of warmth, too, lol.
