I don’t mean to brag…

Honestly, I don’t mean to brag, but I’m going to. Why? Well, let me tell you why. While most the the country spent the weekend dealing with ice and cold and general Winter Misery we spent the weekend at the beach.
Yes. The beach. In January. This weekend was oddly warmer than normal for this time of year. Here in Morgan Hill it was 70 – 72 degrees all weekend. The kicker? It was also warm at the beach. An unseasonable offshore wind made our favorite beach a place of wonder.
On top of the wonderful weather, we also had a mid day negative tide. I was in Heaven! Why? I spent both Saturday and Sunday walking long stretches of the flat beach picking up sand dollars. It sounds so simple and it really is. Finding an in tact sand dollar on the beach always makes me giddy! I was filling my pockets, all of them, and there were still hundreds left on the beach rolling in the waves. I spent the entire time calf deep in the Pacific Ocean enjoying the cold water. Yes, enjoying the cold water, it feels great on my feet!
When we arrived home I emptied my pockets and laid them all out paper towels on our kitchen counter to let them dry. Kiddo took the time to count them and informed me that I had 52 there. With the previous day’s finds I’m sure I have well over 100 of the things to add to my already existing collection. So now it’s time to start using them in my crafting endeavours!
I was so busy collecting shells there was no time for pictures. So I leave you with this shot, from the same beach, that was taken in 2007. It’s a beautiful green clump of sea moss that washed up on the shore. A beautiful little island isn’t it?

Oh sand dollars…I have a bunch of them also from when we lived in Florida. Will need to pull them out to admire and remind me of warm weather when I want to forget the snow and cold. Thanks! – CT
