Play time…

Sorry things have been so quiet here in blogland lately, life has been a bit busy. My birthday just passed, and before that we had Halloween, which is big fun in these parts! This year we did things in a bit of a Dia Se Los Muertos style. That was fun for a change. Mom even joined in the fun!
Then it was trick or treat time, so kiddo and I suited up for our yearly outing .Yes, I have mums in my ears. :) Notice kiddo rolling his eyes behind his mask? He likes having his picture taken about as much as I do.
The beads have been tormenting me of late. I’m in a bit of a lull creatively, which drives me nuts. I’m feeling like I need to try some new things to incorporate in to my bead work. Inspiration has come via a sheet of copper that I received as a birthday present. I’ve been cutting it, hammering it, stamping, sanding, drilling, etshing….all the fun stuff. The past two days I’ve been collaging various images and papers on to copper pieces. Here’s a sample shot of what I’ve been fiddling with.
There are three with collaged bits and pieces on them, and the rest are hammered and stamped. The round pendant says “live dream fly” and is accented with a gold leaf for growth, a faceted glass bead for dreams, and an (elytra) beetle wing for fly. What’s an elytra ? It’s a naturally shed wing from a beetle in Indonesia. It’s naturally luminescent, and the color varies depending on the season it is shed. Personally, I find them quite beautiful!
So, tomorrow I’ll try building a necklace with one of these pieces, and see what I can come up with. The beauty of beads? If I don’t like it, I can take it apart and try again!
How was Halloween for everyone out there? Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Then the dreaded C word?? It’ll be here before you know it!

Awesome costumes…looks like you guys had fun dressing up. Hope you had a great birthday.
