The winds have shifted…

I can feel it in the air here, Fall is on it’s way. The morning fog is getting thicker, the nights are getting cooler and longer. The wind smells more like crips clean air than arid heat. This is my favorite time of the year. Growing up in southern Ohio, I would be surrounded by maple trees with painted leaves, farmers in their fields hurrying to get their crops in before the first frost of the season. Here it’s a little bit different. I’m lucky to still live in an argricultural area. I can see the crops coming to fruition. The pumpkins are starting to plump up, the walnuts are having their last few weeks of growth before they fall, and the skies are playing host to an occasional cloud or two.
My mother and I went for a walk the other day, and we happened by a stand of pomegranate trees that were full of fruit. Some were ripe, others were just getting there. I couldn’t resist…I had to pick one for myself. Thank you pomegranate tree! That fruit is sitting on my bead table right now, with it’s beautiful red skin flecked with tan patches inspiring me. Today, it made me think of orchards full of apples. Reds, browns, greens, accented wtih plum and showing patches of bright blue skies between the branches.
The pendant is a handmade piece from Red Crow Arts in a lovely shade of red with earthy brown undertones. I’ve been hanging on to it for a year or so now, waiting for the right time to use it. Red isn’t a colorĀ normally use, so it was a piece I purchased on purpose to challenge myself.
The Equinox is on it’s way, and we’ll be in Fall’s full swing before you know it! Are you ready?

I am in love with autumn up here also. I have been so deprived if the real season for over 10 years. Scoot on up anytime to you wanna. I just made apple butter and apple sauce the other day. The plums sould be ripe in a week or two, so the spread will be made then too. We are in an indian summer right now, so it is pretty cool at night with great fog int he morning off of the river, then clearing away to t-shirt weather. Hugs. babe.
