For a Brave Girl…

I know a brave girl. She’s smart, tough, and beautiful. I may be biased, though…she’s my niece. She is a cowgirl at heart, and has taken care of horses for several years now. I had the chance to spend a day with her last Summer and watch her care for these amazing animals. They are drawn to her. When she gets near their pasture, they all come to see her. She talks to them…quietly. It was a treat to see her in her true element.

Now she’s 16, and driving herself to her first job. She works hard, and enjoys it. She’s also going to start taking auto mechanic classes this year in high school. It’s that independent streak in her, she likes being able to take care of things herself instead of relying on anyone else. Unfortunately this started out of necessity. She’s been her own best keeper for the past few years, and is also doing her best to help her little sister as well.

I’ve had this pendant for some time now. It’s from Green Girl Studios. I bought it with the intention of making a piece for my niece, I just didn’t know what it was going to be. After some phone calls this week, and a lot of thinking, it hit me this morning. Bravery. Sunstone is said to encourage bravery, independence, and originality. It’s also said to help boost self worth and help relieve stress. Aquamarine is the stone of courage and acts as a nice counterpoint to the orange sun stone.

I also included a cute sterling silver cowgirl hat and a copper disc with her first and last name stamped on it. All of the copper has been torched then polished to give it a nice warm glow and a look of a trail worn piece for my favorite Brave Girl.
