Two Posts, One Day.

This evening was kiddo’s open house. Here is is with Mr. Garcia, his teacher this year.

Kiddo with Mr, Garcia

The world needs more teachers like Mr. Garcia. He’s a kind and gentle spirit, who also expects big things out of his students. His mission is to prepare them for High School, and teach them responsibilities that they will need to take to be successful there, and in life. We’re truly blessed to have him this year!

The big project for the 4th grade is the unit of California History that covers the California Mission Trail. Each student picks a mission, and writes a report on it, then builds a model as well. At open house this evening the missions were on display. There were some very imaginative missions! Here’s kiddo’s, it’s the Mission Santa Cruz.

Kiddo\'s model of Mission Santa Cruz

We built it from scratch using the dimensions from a book about the mission. It was fun, I cut out pieces of styrofoam and helped him glue it together. I also had to mix up a batch of gesso with flour and paint in it for him to slather all over the thing to give it that “adobe” effect. I enjoyed helping him with it, and watching him work on it. It was fun to see the sense of pride he had in his creation. :)

Lastly, a teaser. A quick shot of a piece of jewelry I made today. I need to get the light out and take a few good shots to enter it in to the Art bead Scene monthly challenge. This month’s theme is Mother Earth.

Mother Earth Growing The lampwork beads are by Ingrid Hein at Artwearable. They’re the most awesome melon green color with silver accents on the surface. She included a great seed bead mix with them that she called “Honeydew” which was the jumping off point for the necklace and bracelet. This was another piece that just hit me, and said MAKE ME NOW!!

I love it when that happens, it makes creating so easy.

Still feeling really nauseous from my injection today, so it’s time to lay down and relax.
