Inspiring Storm…

Have I mentioned that Meteorology was my first true love? I’m sure I have, but I’m mentioning it again.

Springtime in Southern Ohio was always exciting growing up. We lived in the northern section of Ross County. To the north east, and west, it was flat flat flat, you could see for miles. To the south, the Appalachian foothills were on the horizon. We could watch the storms rolling in from a distance, like a massive grey steamroller with lightning flashing around. I was lucky enough to catch glimpses of ball lightning on a couple occasions. Funnel clouds weren’t unheard of. Hail was par for the course. I can remember watching the storms from the window, or from the porch. The smell of the ozonated air charged with electricity is such a memorable scent.

It’s that time of year again. A friend of mine lives down in Kentucky and they were hunkering down for a round of storms a few days ago. She had posted a radar shot of her area, which happened to include my home region.

It inspired a necklace. More than inspired. I was just told to make it. As we all know, when that inner voice says do it, you do it. (Unless it’s killing your in laws or something like that) So I made it.

The colors are inspired by the colors on the radar image. Labradorite was thrown in to represent the stormy skies flashing with lightning. It can be worn as a necklace at 20″ or wrapped around the wrist a few times as a bracelet.

Beautiful! I have seen enough hurricanes in my life, I wish I was inspired to create such beauty with each of them…you are indeed a goddess! Felicidades! (that is congratulations in Spanish).
