Can you tell what’s in the air?

I woke up today to one of my favorite things in the world. A rainy sky. I popped up out of bed, walked to the patio, and stepped outside. The air was amazing. It smelled like a deep forest. Clean, woody, GREEN. Yes, it smells green.
This brings me to a long standing question of mine. What do colors smell like, and sound like? The smell comes easy. Red roses, orange oranges, yellow lemons, green trees, blue ocean, violet plums. That’s just the first set that comes to mind. I’m sure other mammals do this, associate smells with colors. How could they not?
How do colors sound? That one gets a lot of brain time in my head. Here’s an easy one: when the wind blows through the trees, that’s what green sounds like, to me. What does orange sound like? Purple, my favorite color, has a sound, I’m sure of it. It sounds like lovers at 3am on a stormy night with no lights on. To me, anyway :)
So, this leads me to the next step, what do colors feel like? What kind of texture would blue have? Or yellow? Last but not least, taste. How do colors taste? That one may be the easiest one to realize for must of us. We do associate certain tastes with certain colors. Red often indicates spice, green salads and apples…I really could go on and on with this.
Sometimes, at night, when I can’t sleep, I think about this. I’ll come up with new sensations for a particular color. I’ve noticed that there are certain colors that…hmm, how can I say this? It’s all hard to put into words. I’ll go with purple again, my favorite color. It never makes me thing of anything sharp, pointy, bitter, or loud. It’s a very smooth, supple color. Whereas red, inspires a wide range of sensations. Hot and sweet, spicy, sharp, intense, smooth…quite a variety.
Color means a lot to me. It inspires me on a regular basis. Seeing color combinations that I’ve not thought of before is always a treat, and often comes from Mother Nature. That’s why I get so excited when it starts raining here. It brings things back to life, refreshes the colors all around me. It’s like the lenses that I look through have suddenly been washed clean of several months worth of dust.
Hello Fall, it’s nice to see you again. See what you’ve inspired?
Blessings.
Peace.

You know, i thought *I* was the only one that knew what “green” smelled like, and I took just LOVE that. Love days like that. The weather is going to be nice and cool here this week; highs in the low to mid 60′s, and I can’t even tell you how elated that makes me. There’s a certain level of power that floats on the breeze when the weather is like this. Nothing makes you feel more alive & capable, you know??
Red – I associate with apples; anything apple-pie-ish, etc. I am one of those freaks that thinks the odd stuff: browns and earth tones remind me of, well, earth – the smell of the ground when it hasn’t rained in ages, and then suddenly, it pours…….or sawdust. I love the smell of sawdust.
Green – vegetation, pine – scotch tape!!! :) (Yep, freak. Told ya. LMAO)
Crazy, but your entire post sounded like something that would have come directly from my own mind….gimme back my brain cell! LOL
Wishing you a blessed Autumn day!!
You have totally captured everything that is outside right now.
You know, there are people who spend their whole lives knowing what green smells like or what that song looks like or what that sound tastes like. Check out synesthesia. I have a friend who is synesthetic, it’s pretty cool.
This was a very synesthetic post. She would approve. :)
